Alkitab for iPhone/iPod Touch

Alkitab for iPhone/iPod Touch

The Alkitab for iPhone/iPod Touch is basically an eBook containing the Indonesian version of the Bible. I started this project since I couldn't find any Bible in Indonesian version to be used in my iPod Touch.

This is the second version of my Alkitab conversion, so there may still be some errors in it which I would have to fix on the next updates. Most of the books don't have any pericope titles yet, so you might want to check back here as I release updates every some time or so.

If you found any errors or mistakes in the latest version, please take the time to contact me, so I can immediately fix it and republish it. The current version is last updated on April 10, 2008.

Please note that none of this work is endorsed by Apple, so use it at your own risk.

Installation (iPhone/iPod Touch 1.1.4 or lower)

The Alkitab has been hosted by modmyifone. Assuming that you have a jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch, and Installer installed in it, install Books.app first, and then install Alkitab. As simple as that.

Installation (iPhone 2.0, not tested on iPod Touch yet)

Assuming that you have a jailbroken iPhone 2.0, and Cydia installed in it, install BookReader. To get the Alkitab onto your iPhone, follow these steps (cited partially from BookReader's instructions):

First, download the Alkitab file here (.zip - 2.8MB). You should have it uncompressed and find the "Alkitab" folder.

Next, you will need to install the OpenSSH package, and use tools that support the Secure Copy (SCP) protocol to transfer files. For more advanced Mac OS X users, Terminal.app can be used to transfer books using the scp or rsync commands. Less advanced users can use third-party applications such as Panic's Transmit. Once you connect to your iPhone, place the "Alkitab" folder in the /var/mobile/Media/eBooks/ subdirectory. You can find out how to connect to your iPhone here, as well as on lots of sites over the internet.

There may be other applications that can read HTML files, such as BookShelf, but I have not tested it yet. So if anyone of you bought this off the AppStore and tested it, please let me know.

Important Note

Due to the fact that I have so limited free time and access to Windows machines, I will not be able to provide you with additional help on how to install the files in your iPhone/iPod Touch. This includes any emails asking for tutorial translations in Indonesian, questions about what is "Jailbreaking" (which by now, I believe you'll find tons of articles about this on the internet), nor questions about if you need Books.app before installing the Alkitab. I consider the instructions I wrote above are easy enough to understand even for a monkey smart enough to count from one to five. I reckon that for an iPhone/iPod Touch user, this is not something hard to follow. So if you are having a hard time understanding the instructions, you might want to consider replacing your iPhone/iPod Touch with something less sophisticated as you probably don't understand the features that your iPhone/iPod Touch is offering. This is not a matter if I'm a snob or else, this is a matter of how ignorant you consider yourself! Sorry!
