New Parts Upgrades for the Bike

I initially wanted to buy a new wheel set with semi-slick tires for my bike, but I finally ended up with this set of Deore shifters, a Deore Rear Derailleur, and a 9-speed cogset. I got them all just for 700k, which is actually cheap considering that the shifters and cogset are new, and the derailleur was only used for two rides. Hopefully they could all be installed on this coming Wednesday. So 9-speed now, new wheel set some other time :).

After a long consideration and thoughts, here it is, the 2010 Marin Bolinas Ridge Disc to replace my Polygon Galleon. And oh yeah, I’m selling that one.

Bike Restoration Project Part 4: The Break In

Monday, August 24, 2009

To be honest, I can never really keep my hands off a new toy, and that’s why I decided on trying my new bike out earlier tonight. I moved the lights from my Galleon and went for a couple of rounds in sector 2. Since it is a smaller bike, as expected, it requires a bit more effort to punch through the routes, and since the handling is also lighter, I occasionally got those sideways jolt. None of this happened when riding my Galleon, which means I would need a little more adaptation to this bike.

Just like regular newly built bikes, it sure definitely going to need some minor tweaks here and there. One thing I noticed was that the front brakes are too wide open and did not touch the edge of the rims properly. In short, they didn’t work, so I better get them fixed.

Overall, for long rides, I still prefer the Galleon, but for the occasional fun stuff, this one is good enough!

Polygon Nevada White

After almost a week, my newly restored bike is finally here. Initially I wanted a white bike with full black parts, but unfortunately finding the right parts for this old-age bike frame is seemingly impossible nowadays, so we had to come up with some quirks to it.

But nevertheless, the bike is completed, and it is ready for break in sometime this week. The bike is relatively smaller to my hybrid, so I might need some getting used to as I expect the bike to be a bit more agile. We’ll see how it goes.

Polygon Nevada White Frame

Here it is! My newly refurbished Polygon Nevada frame, with a splash of Super White paint, which I just brought out of the workshop around half an hour ago. These guys did a nice job for the frame, so if anyone wants to paint a bicycle frame, I give Rizky Motor two thumbs up and a recommendation. Next step, shopping for parts.
