Billboard Construction Integrity

Monday, November 9, 2009

I went back from the campus with a bit of horror today. Along BSD, I saw humongous billboards on the road, crashed without the ability to withstand the enormous wind power of today’s thunderstorm. This puts the concern in me on how do these guys manage to design a thing that big and at the same time, not calculate the correct numbers on how to deal with mother nature. I’m no structural engineer, but the billboards I see have these tiny cages and bars, huge dimensions, and no wind-dispersion system whatsoever. No wonder they collapsed. Perhaps if they create these tiny perforations on the billboard’s main plane, it could disperse wind and withstand better.

A bit of advice, if you have to storm through the rain, try to keep your vehicle away from these billboards. Better be safe than sorry.

How a Mouse Managed to Bit Me Last Monday

House Mouse

I promised my Twitter friends that I’m gonna tell them how a damned house mouse managed to bit me last Monday. Yes, it happened on a Monday morning, around 1 AM. I was just getting ready for bed, locking out the office, strolling down the house to the living room, grabbing a snack, and getting a glass of water.

And when I was going to wash my hands in the pantry, there we go, a mouse was trapped there with the glue trap. I didn’t see the barrage of traps Mom set up, so I stepped just next to the Mickey’s head, and it bit me.

I spent the other hour washing my wounds and putting dabs of alcohols to it, while Dad woke up, killed the trapped mouse, and had it disposed of. In the process, I lost my comfortable Converse sandals, which is now, of course, covered with glue and probably debris of that blasted mouse.

Earlier this day, in fear that I might get an infection, because you never know what that thing ate. Long story short, I got the anti Tetanus shot, and I’m okay and will not grow any tail any time soon.
