My iBook Died on Me (Again) and So as My iMac

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Last Sunday, when I got back from church, I found my iMac powered off. This is very weird, since I never, unless I wanted to, turn my iMac off. And remembering that Trixie had the same experience a few days back, I figured out that something did went wrong. And that was proven when it unwantedly powered itself off the second I logged my account in. This could be a faulty power supply, or a logic board. Oh please, let it be the power supply!

Anyway, I backed all my recent projects to Nyonyo’s PowerMac and hoped that it didn’t power off before everything was copied. I also backed up some files to my newly fixed iBook with its supposedly-brand-new logic board, hoping that I don’t have to use the PC to continue my daily work. Unfortunately, my iBook repeats it’s destruction on me again, so here I am, at the same time, losing both my Macs for a while, and stuck on a PC. Trust me, migrating to a Mac for year and back to a PC does feel awkward. I started to look for Expose and Dock, and using Control-Click to interact with it… Geez… Thankfully, before I migrated a year ago, I put the start menu on the top of the screen, so I guess wouldn’t miss finder that much.

This could probably the time for us to buy a Network Attached Storage, so that when things like this happens, we could access our files from just about any computer.

Tomorrow, my iMac (at least) is supposed to have its power supply replaced. I can just hope that the power supply is the last of my problems. My other biggest problem would be this everlasting cough that I’ve been having for almost a week!

A Virus… On a Mac?!

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

The office’s internet connection has been a hassle for a few days already now. We constantly experiencing timeouts, dead connections, server-not-found status, etc on random times. I called Indosat twice today, and as expected, calling to an Indonesian customer service phone line doesn’t exactly solve your problems. By the end of the conversation, she (the call support employee) told me that a virus might cause network problems… Right… On a Mac? Well, there are some viruses available for the Mac, but I don’t think any of them could cause network problems.

Now, you see how PC-minded Indonesia is? Even the largest telecommunications provider doesn’t even know Macs. I feel so sorry for my country.

5 Minutes to 3AM

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

My clock shows me that it’s almost 3AM again, this must be the 8th consecutive days that I sleep past midnight, I don’t know. While I know that working too late is not good for my health, being a perfectionist workaholic, I just can’t seem to leave my projects until it’s done for the day. It’s probably a good thing from one side, but not on the other. I am constantly trying to find that balance in my life. Apart from that and the tiring work as a designer, in the end, after seeing all of my company’s projects being finalized one by one, it’s all worth it. I’m happy to be able to have a respectable company, reliable partners, and above all, that feeling when you know that you’ve done something for your clients and made their demands possible.

We settle our differences on the alley next to the office… It’s fun to be able to work in the creative industry, ain’t it?

First Post for the New Site + Life Updates

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

So here it is, after weeks of development. And looking at the date of my last post, it has been exactly a month. This time, let’s hope I could do a better job on maintaining my blog. Basically this site is a redesign from container. with quirks here and there, and a blog engine change to WordPress, which I found a bit less frustrating to customize to my needs. Other than that, I just redesigned the whole layout to a cleaner and a more hygiene look.

As for life, my life is running on a faster pace right now. I have a lot of work in Neuro-Designs after the expansion on July, I still have my ongoing final project and hopefully this would be my last semester on the campus, and I’m the new musical coordinator for the Imago Dei, as well as a caretaker for my church’s Audio Visual Team. Combining all those things in one life could send my heart dropping from the Terror of Tower sometimes.

Another good news also came from JVC when I got my handycam back a while ago, after that unfortunate incident. The bad news is that I have to pay half the price of a new handycam of the same type for the repairs. But nevertheless, it’s still better than having to pay a new handycam after all. So, now we could do those unimportant video projects me and my officemates have been planning…

Oh yeah, Ario Pratomo was selected as BusinessWeek’s Asia’s Best Entrepreneur Under 25. A huge congrats to him!
