Gate Ball

Sunday, June 18, 2006

Tamara and Ernest brought a new game for the Komisi Pemuda to play after Sunday services. It’s called Gate Ball. The game is actually remodelled by Eiji Suzuki for younger people from the French game called Croquet.

Today’s players were divided into 2 teams, one with the 5 red balls which have odd numbers, and the other with the 5 white balls, which have even numbers. Andreas, Rina, Maryoko, Eric, and myself got the white team. Irlanto, Dewi, Chris, Prissa, and Ernest got the red team. Yero also joined the game after he’s done with his exams at Farabi.

We didn’t consider this game as sports because we don’t sweat a lot playing this. That is if we didn’t play it under the hot sun, of course. The game was fun, and we had two rounds today and played under the official rules. But because the first round is still introductory so people gets the hang of it, the half-hour time limit was removed.

The only problem with the game is the field. The Mardiko field (The one next to my church) is an absolute uneven ground, so the balls could really be unpredictable, and you can also cheat by having the ball stopped from getting out by a bunch of grass. Next week, we have to find a better spot to play the game if we’re going to play it better.

Car Wash

Sunday, May 14, 2006

In order to raise more funds for the upcoming live-in event in a village somewhere in Salatiga, the church’s Komisi Remaja made a car wash event. Some of the guys from Komisi Pemuda helped them out. That includes myself. Actually the experience is pretty cool, we were divided into teams of 3, plus a sales promotion girl each, and each team had to find at least 5 cars or 10 motorcycles to wash. Basically, a motorcycle is half a car. Unfortunately, my team lacked one person at the beginning, Adit was late. There were only Jeffrey, me, and Kara. Kara finds the job orders, we do the washing.

Actually, we did a quite impressive job. Jeffrey and I finished 4 cars and a bike in almost an hour. Well, Kara helped out a bit on the fourth car. The next two cars were helped out by anybody who is doing nothing by that time. Actually, we kinda cheated on the target. The last two cars were mine and Kara’s. But hey, anything for charity, right?

By the end of the event, we raised more than 800.000 for the charity. That is cool! Charity and exercise sometimes go together very well.

Bowling at Pin

Friday, September 30, 2005

I attended the Pemuda bowling event today. The event was actually replacing the fellowship we regularly have on Fridays, and this time we get to bowl for free. Actually, we only have to pay 5.000 for the shoes, and the rest of the fee was paid by our fellowship available budget.

And, you know… Really, I suck at bowling. I never get the ball to slide straight, or even curved the way Relix bowled. Probably because today was the first time I bowled, but probably, I just sucked at bowling, hahahaha. I still prefer billiard to bowling though…
