So here it is, after weeks of development. And looking at the date of my last post, it has been exactly a month. This time, let’s hope I could do a better job on maintaining my blog. Basically this site is a redesign from container. with quirks here and there, and a blog engine change to WordPress, which I found a bit less frustrating to customize to my needs. Other than that, I just redesigned the whole layout to a cleaner and a more hygiene look.

As for life, my life is running on a faster pace right now. I have a lot of work in Neuro-Designs after the expansion on July, I still have my ongoing final project and hopefully this would be my last semester on the campus, and I’m the new musical coordinator for the Imago Dei, as well as a caretaker for my church’s Audio Visual Team. Combining all those things in one life could send my heart dropping from the Terror of Tower sometimes.

Another good news also came from JVC when I got my handycam back a while ago, after that unfortunate incident. The bad news is that I have to pay half the price of a new handycam of the same type for the repairs. But nevertheless, it’s still better than having to pay a new handycam after all. So, now we could do those unimportant video projects me and my officemates have been planning…

Oh yeah, Ario Pratomo was selected as BusinessWeek’s Asia’s Best Entrepreneur Under 25. A huge congrats to him!

My sister has been asking me to get an undergraduate prospectus of my campus for ages now. And in fact, I did take the damn thing today. It was located at the new students admission center at building D. So yes, it was quite an irritating walk.

The undergraduate prospectus features a set of booklet and video CD, all packed into one envelope, all in the same colors and theme. The design was okay, it’s not bad, and it’s not anywhere near outstanding either, so it was okay. I would judge the print quality to be a few steps below of what I expected from a multi-million dollar campus that we studied in. The choice of paper was fairly cheesy so that it looked too shiny that it’s not exclusive anymore. The photos are also bad, it has bad color corrections, bad angles, everything. I would say that they just don’t conform to “good” standards.

Anyway, bad prospectus design aside, I put the VCD in and played it. I don’t usually get this curious with stuff concerning my campus, and yet something really got me struck by lightning…

Imagine this, it’s a undergraduate prospectus profile VCD. What does it do? Well, first of all it should promote UPH as good as it can so students are attracted, and really, they did promote it. But the thing is, what were they thinking when they put “Smack My Bitch Up” and “Firestarter” from the Prodigy as the background music?!?!?! For God’s sake, this is a university profile, and I don’t think that’s legal anyway!

This morning, I woke up at 5.50 AM realizing that outside is still as dark as 3 AM. And it’s still raining. I am quite surprised with myself to be able to woke up that early. What I don’t really enjoy is that I have a Civics class at the campus at 7.30, which means I have to leave home by 6.45 at most. And yet another great lazy and rainy morning for sleeping is a goodbye.

Actually, I don’t mind having classes at 7.30, if I’m late, it’s my fault for being lazy. But I do mind to have a civics class at 7.30. Not only that it is an extremely boring class, I found it useless. Yes, useless.

Starting a few years back, when I was in high school perhaps, I started to wonder what’s on the minds of those so-called bright people in the Depdiknas, in terms of creating a suitable and effective curricullums for our nation’s students (Man, their site is ugly…). They began to load us up with worthless crap subjects such as the PLKJ, that is the Pendidikan Lingkungan Kehidupan Jakarta. Okay, here, judging only from the name of it, and our geographical location, which is in Jakarta, would that do any good to our knowledge? Effectively? Other than wasting our precious time while we can use them for other subjects that may interest us? Or maybe some social subjects that requires you to memorize all the ministers name, or their replacements, should they be replaced. I had that one back in elementary. Waste of time.

I consider civics one of those crappy subjects. Why? Well, unless you are vigorously planning yourself to run for president, or a head of a high-class political party, or even a lawyer maybe, why would you bother discussing in detail about the UUD 1945, PPs, Kepreses, Tap MPRs, and so on and so on?

I thought the essence of civics were build along with our knowledge of our country, and that is what made us Indonesians. But they weren’t supposed to be built by sticking rule numbers on our heads like, “Hey! What’s the number of the citizen’s right to have a decent livelihood?” or, “Hey! What’s the PP number that regulates the form of our nation?” The truth? I really don’t give a damn. I don’t even consider them important for my well-being.

Besides, learning civics extensively doesn’t mean that you’re going to grow up civilized. Want an example? Just look at our country… That’s already more than you can bargain for.

I didn’t go assisting the Web Design and Typography 1 lectures today. I was almost busted and I got so very tired. Maybe because we came home too late at night yesterday, after having dinner with the Yangs. And since Oom Sanny is going to check on the Imago Dei booklet progress earlier this morning, I decided to take my leave for the day and get some rest too. Getting sick by the end of this week is a really bad idea…

I paid the 150 thousand seminar fee to Bu Lisna yesterday. I figured that this is a good chance to attend a seminar from one of the world’s top designers. Although I’m not really into Carson’s style, I’d say it’s a rare chance.
