Lippo Karawaci A1GP EPIC FAIL

Monday, January 19, 2009

I’ve been posting some items regarding this matter both in Facebook and my Twitter for some time already, but I think this particular humiliation deserves its own permanent article in my blog.

Some time last year, I was told that Lippo Karawaci is going to be the venue for the upcoming A1GP race in February. I was really skeptical. This news could either be a hoax, or just a desperate attempt of Lippo Karawaci to reach popularity. And just a few days ago, I must say that the latter served the truth closer than the first. And I must say, I bet they’re right now THAT desperate.

On January 9, Okezone.com posted a news on their site with a bold headline: “Lippo Village Lebih Baik dari Monaco“. Wow. Shocking, really. Can it be true? Indonesia is better than Monaco? A country that has been serving the F1 Grand Prix since 1929? And let me quote the reasons for Lippo Karawaci to be a better circuit than Monaco:

“Lippo Village memiliki lingkungan yang bagus, pohon-pohon yang rindang. Cuaca di sana juga sangat bagus.”

I could agree with the trees. But the weather? Yeah, sure.

“Di Monaco, sirkuitnya terlalu sempit untuk overtaking. Sedangkan di sirkuit ini, jalanannya lebih lebar. Selain itu, lingkungan di sini juga lebih bagus.”

Yes, they judged whether a circuit is better or not, not because of its overall quality and difficulty, but because it’s easier. If you’re a skillful Grand Prix driver, then the more challenge you have on a circuit, the better you can prove your skills.

On January 16, however, another shocking news appeared as a main headline on A1GP’s official website: “Lippo circuit fails build deadline“. Well, booyah! Here’s why the permit was revoked:

“Obviously it is extremely disappointing for all concerned and not the news any of us wanted. The bottom line is, for safety reasons, A1GP cannot race on a circuit that does not meet or has not received the necessary licence from the FIA, so we have no other option but to cancel all plans to bring the A1GP show to Indonesia in three weeks’ time.”

That was according to Pete da Silva, the A1GP CEO.

So, as I said before, next time, why don’t you:

  • First, stop bragging that you have the best circuit in the world. Because you don’t.
  • Second, trying bidding for a balap karung event instead. Trust me, it’s an easier strain for you compared to building an A1 circuit. All you need is dirt, and the local Pak RT for a witness.

So in the end, “Lippo Village Lebih Baik dari Monaco“? I can also say a dog’s fart smells good. When will you ever learn?

Typical Lippo – all show and no substance.

For such a successful company, they really are idiots.

Imagine all the ‘brown envelopes’ wasted on this and all the money that could have been used to better the environment for residents. All this useless space that could be used for parks for sport and for children to play.

Lippo A1 = major loss of face and respect.
