G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra

Monday, August 10, 2009

I got the chance to watch G.I. Joe yesterday to prove whether the movie is as sucker as Rotten Tomatoes described it or not (As of now, it has fallen down to the lame 39%). I could agree that the movie is a cartoonish PG-13 live action movie, it has a cartoonish plot and occasionally cartoonish dialogs as well. But if I were asked if the movie is enjoyable or not, well then yes, it’s absolutely enjoyable. I would vouch that the storyline of G.I. Joe Resolute is far more realistic and far more mature than this one (and thus better), but aside from the cheesy and seemingly low-budget CGIs, it doesn’t stop the movie from being a refreshment for nostalgic G.I. Joe fans.

To say the least, in my opinion, the movie is far more watchable than Transformers 2 and whatever Michael Bay has created out of it. In this movie, despite that Channing Tatum probably couldn’t portray Duke as he should, you only get one or two unimportant scenes (such as the Accelerator Suit chase scene), compared to the endless barrage of crap that Bay has to offer throughout Transformers 2, although it has better special effects.

Except for the history of a few, the characters are pretty much spot on, and I can bet that all G.I. Joe fans must agree that the movie’s Snake Eyes is just excellent.
